A Spotify collaborative playlist is a playlist that multiple Spotify users can contribute to and edit. It allows a group of people to collaborate and create a shared playlist that reflects their collective music preferences. With just a few clicks, you can make any of your Spotify playlists “collaborative,” meaning that anyone who has the link can add songs to it.

What is a Spotify collaborative playlist?

A Spotify collaborative playlist is a unique feature that allows multiple Spotify users to contribute and curate a shared playlist. Unlike regular playlists, which are typically managed by a single user, collaborative playlists enable a group of individuals to collaborate and add or remove tracks.

When a playlist is set to collaborative mode, anyone with access to the playlist can contribute by adding songs, rearranging the track order, or even removing songs. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of shared ownership and allows friends, family, or a community of users to create a playlist together.

How to make a Spotify Collaborative playlist?

Note: this feature is only available on Spotify app, not including web player.

Open the Spotify app, create a playlist or open a playlist that you want to make it Collaborative. Keep in mind you can only do this for playlists you’ve created.

On Mobile:

  1. Open Spotify app. Tap Your Library and choose a playlist created by you.
  2. Tap Invite collaborators icon. This generates a link that’s valid for 7 days.
  3. Share the link to your friends. You can share to social or messaging apps or by copying a link.

On desktop:

1. Open Spotify app, go to the playlist and click the Invite collaborators icon.

2. This generates a link that’s valid for 7 days.

3. Share the link to your friends.

To invite others to collaborate on the playlist, you can share the playlist link with them via messaging apps, social media, or by directly copying the playlist link. Once others have access to the playlist, they can add, remove, and reorder songs within it.

Collaborators can contribute to the playlist by searching for songs, albums, or artists within the Spotify app or web player and then selecting the option to add them to the collaborative playlist. All changes made by collaborators are synchronized across all users who have access to the playlist.

Spotify collaborative playlists are a fun way to discover and share music with friends, organize playlists for events or parties, or collaborate on thematic playlists with a group of people who have similar music tastes.

Why can’t I find the Invite collaborators icon?

You can only Invite collaborators for playlists created by you. If a playlist is created by Spotify, there is no Invite Collaborators icon even you add it to Your Library.

If you want to make playlists created by Spotify collaborative, remember not to add it to Library directly.

Open the playlist, tap the three-dots icon and choose Add to other playlist.

Then select an existing playlist or create a new playlist.

Now the playlist is added to Your Library with Invite collaborators icon.

How to remove a collaborator?

On Mobile:

  1. Tap the profile pictures under the playlist name.
  2. Tap Horizontal 3 dots icon  (iOS) / Vertical 3 dots icon (Android) next to your friend’s name.
  3. Select Remove as collaborator.

On desktop:

  1. Click the profile pictures under the playlist name.
  2. Click Arrow down icon next to your friend’s name.
  3. Select Remove as collaborator.

How to add someone’s Collaborative playlist to your Library?

Once you send someone the link to your collaborative playlist, they can open and listen to that playlist by clicking on the link. However, unless they want to find and use the same link every time, they should add the playlist to their library.

Adding a playlist to your Spotify library saves it to your personal playlist collection, making it easy to find and open whenever you want.

To save a collaborative playlist to your library, open its link and load it in the Spotify app. Then click or tap the heart icon below the playlist name.
