1. Check internet connection

If you are streaming the music that is pausing, it is most likely buffering due to a weak network connection. You can connect to a stronger Wi-Fi network to resolve the behavior, or save the music to your device instead of streaming it.

Apple Music offers high-definition “lossless” audio, which streams over 9 megabits per second (Mbps). You’ll need an internet plan that’s at least 20 Mbps to handle these streams.

2. Turn lossless off

Apple Music lossless uses higher quality audio files than the standard AAC files, which results in larger file sizes and therefore requires more data to stream. This can cause buffering if you have a slow or unreliable internet connection. Additionally, lossless audio requires more processing power to decode on your device, which can also contribute to buffering or playback issues on older or less powerful devices.

On iPhone or iPad

1. Go to Settings > Music.
2. Tap Audio Quality.
3. Tap Lossless Audio to turn it on or off.

On Android

1. Open the Apple Music app.
2. Tap the More button .
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap Audio Quality.
5. Tap Lossless to turn it on or off.

On Mac

1. Open the Apple Music app.
2. In the menu bar, choose Music > Preferences.
3. Click the Playback tab.
4. Under Audio Quality, select or unselect “Lossless audio” to turn it on or off. 

On HomePod

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Home app.
2. Tap the Home button .
3. Tap Home Settings.
4. Under People, tap your name.
5. Tap Apple Music.
6. Turn Lossless Audio on or off.

On Apple TV 4K

1. Go to Settings > Apps.
2. Select Music.
3. Select Audio Quality.
4. Select or deselect Lossless. Apple TV 4K currently doesn’t support Hi-Res Lossless (sample rates greater than 48 kHz).

3. Download the songs

Download songs to your device so you can listen to them even without internet connection. After you add music to your library, you can download it to your device to listen to offline.

4. Check if the songs are greyed out

Some songs or albums might be grayed out because they’re not currently available in Apple Music. 

5. Update your device

Update your iPhone or iPad 

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. Tap Install Now.

6. Update Apple Music

On iOS

1. Open the App Store.
2. Search for Apple Music.
3. Tap Update if available.

On Windows

In the iTunes app on your PC, do one of the following:

• Manually check for new versions of iTunes: Choose Help > Check for Updates.
• Have iTunes automatically check for new versions every week: Choose Edit > Preferences, click Advanced, then make sure that “Check for new software updates automatically” is selected.

7. Play on one device or upgrade to Apple Music family

If you get below notice, it means you are playing Apple Music on more than one device. If you want to play Apple Music on just one device each time, you can subscribe to the individual plan. This plan allows you to access Apple Music on a single device at a time. If you need to play Apple Music on multiple devices at the same time, you will need to upgrade to the Apple Music Family Plan. This plan allows up to six people to access Apple Music on their own devices simultaneously. Each family member will have their own individual account, which means they can stream and download songs to their device, create their own playlists, and get personalized music recommendations.

To upgrade to the Apple Music Family Plan, follow these steps:

On Mac

1. Open Music app and click Account – Upgrade to Family.
2. Follow onscreen instructions.

On iOS

1. Open Music app and tap Listen Now.
2. Tap the profile icon on the top right corner.
3. Tap Upgrade to Family Plan.
4. Follow onscreen instructions.

On Windows

1. Open iTunes app.
2. Click Account – Apple Music – Upgrade to Family.

8. Turn off Low Data Mode

Disable Low Data mode on your iPhone or iPad. This feature restricts the amount of data that can be utilized by various applications, including Apple Music, over your cellular network or specific WLAN network. While this can be helpful in conserving data usage, it may cause Apple Music to pause intermittently if it’s consuming an excessive amount of data. LTE/4G Cellular

1. Go to Settings and tap Cellular
2. Tap Cellular Data Options, then turn off Low Data Mode. 

5G Cellular

1. Go to Settings and tap Cellular.
2. Tap Cellular Data Options, select Data Mode, then turn off Low Data Mode.

Dual SIM

1. Go to Settings and tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
2. Tap one of your numbers.
3. Turn off Low Data Mode.

Wi-Fi

1. Go to Settings and tap Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the Info button  next to the Wi-Fi network that you’re connected to.
3. Turn off Low Data Mode.
